Thanksgiving

(Philippians 1:3-11; Colossians 1:3-14; 2 Thessalonians 1:3-4)

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
4I always thank my God for you because of his grace given you in Christ Jesus.4I give thanks to my God always for you because of the grace of God that was given you in Christ Jesus,4I thank my God always concerning you for the grace of God which was given you in Christ Jesus,4I thank my God always on your behalf, for the grace of God which is given you by Jesus Christ;4I always thank my God for you because of God's grace given to you in Christ Jesus,
5For in him you have been enriched in every way--with all kinds of speech and with all knowledge--5that in every way you were enriched in him in all speech and all knowledge—5that in everything you were enriched in Him, in all speech and all knowledge,5That in every thing ye are enriched by him, in all utterance, and in all knowledge;5that by Him you were enriched in everything--in all speech and all knowledge.
6God thus confirming our testimony about Christ among you.6even as the testimony about Christ was confirmed among you—6even as the testimony concerning Christ was confirmed in you,6Even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you:6In this way, the testimony about Christ was confirmed among you,
7Therefore you do not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed.7so that you are not lacking in any gift, as you wait for the revealing of our Lord Jesus Christ,7so that you are not lacking in any gift, awaiting eagerly the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ,7So that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ:7so that you do not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ.
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
8He will also keep you firm to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.8who will sustain you to the end, guiltless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.8who will also confirm you to the end, blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.8Who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.8He will also strengthen you to the end, so that you will be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.
9God is faithful, who has called you into fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.9God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.9God is faithful, through whom you were called into fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.9God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.9God is faithful; you were called by Him into fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Unity in the Church

(Psalm 133:1-3; Ephesians 4:1-16)

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
10I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.10I appeal to you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment.10Now I exhort you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all agree and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be made complete in the same mind and in the same judgment.10Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.10Now I urge you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree in what you say, that there be no divisions among you, and that you be united with the same understanding and the same conviction.
11My brothers and sisters, some from Chloe's household have informed me that there are quarrels among you.11For it has been reported to me by Chloe’s people that there is quarreling among you, my brothers.11For I have been informed concerning you, my brethren, by Chloe's people, that there are quarrels among you.11For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you.11For it has been reported to me about you, my brothers, by members of Chloe's household, that there is rivalry among you.
12What I mean is this: One of you says, "I follow Paul"; another, "I follow Apollos"; another, "I follow Cephas"; still another, "I follow Christ."12What I mean is that each one of you says, “I follow Paul,” or “I follow Apollos,” or “I follow Cephas,” or “I follow Christ.”12Now I mean this, that each one of you is saying, "I am of Paul," and "I of Apollos," and "I of Cephas," and "I of Christ."12Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ.12What I am saying is this: Each of you says, "I'm with Paul," or "I'm with Apollos," or "I'm with Cephas," or "I'm with Christ."
13Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Were you baptized in the name of Paul?13Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?13Has Christ been divided? Paul was not crucified for you, was he? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?13Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?13Is Christ divided? Was it Paul who was crucified for you? Or were you baptized in Paul's name?
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
14I thank God that I did not baptize any of you except Crispus and Gaius,14I thank God that I baptized none of you except Crispus and Gaius,14I thank God that I baptized none of you except Crispus and Gaius,14I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius;14I thank God that I baptized none of you except Crispus and Gaius,
15so no one can say that you were baptized in my name.15so that no one may say that you were baptized in my name.15so that no one would say you were baptized in my name.15Lest any should say that I had baptized in mine own name.15so that no one can say you were baptized in my name.
16(Yes, I also baptized the household of Stephanas; beyond that, I don't remember if I baptized anyone else.)16(I did baptize also the household of Stephanas. Beyond that, I do not know whether I baptized anyone else.)16Now I did baptize also the household of Stephanas; beyond that, I do not know whether I baptized any other.16And I baptized also the household of Stephanas: besides, I know not whether I baptized any other.16I did, in fact, baptize the household of Stephanas; beyond that, I don't know if I baptized anyone else.
17For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel--not with wisdom and eloquence, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.17For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel, and not with words of eloquent wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.17For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not in cleverness of speech, so that the cross of Christ would not be made void.17For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.17For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to evangelize--not with clever words, so that the cross of Christ will not be emptied of its effect.

Christ the Wisdom and Power of God

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
18For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.18For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.18For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.18For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.18For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but it is God's power to us who are being saved.
19For it is written: "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate."19For it is written, “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart.”19For it is written, "I WILL DESTROY THE WISDOM OF THE WISE, AND THE CLEVERNESS OF THE CLEVER I WILL SET ASIDE."19For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.19For it is written: I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and I will set aside the understanding of the experts.
20Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?20Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?20Where is the wise man? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?20Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?20Where is the philosopher? Where is the scholar? Where is the debater of this age? Hasn't God made the world's wisdom foolish?
21For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe.21For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe.21For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not come to know God, God was well-pleased through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.21For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.21For since, in God's wisdom, the world did not know God through wisdom, God was pleased to save those who believe through the foolishness of the message preached.
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
22Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom,22For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom,22For indeed Jews ask for signs and Greeks search for wisdom;22For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:22For the Jews ask for signs and the Greeks seek wisdom,
23but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles,23but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and folly to Gentiles,23but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block and to Gentiles foolishness,23But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;23but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to the Jews and foolishness to the Gentiles.
24but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.24but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.24but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.24But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.24Yet to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ is God's power and God's wisdom,

The Foolish to Shame the Wise

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
25For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.25For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.25Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.25Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.25because God's foolishness is wiser than human wisdom, and God's weakness is stronger than human strength.
26Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth.26For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth.26For consider your calling, brethren, that there were not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble;26For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:26Brothers, consider your calling: Not many are wise from a human perspective, not many powerful, not many of noble birth.
27But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.27But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong;27but God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong,27But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;27Instead, God has chosen what is foolish in the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen what is weak in the world to shame the strong.
28God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things--and the things that are not--to nullify the things that are,28God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are,28and the base things of the world and the despised God has chosen, the things that are not, so that He may nullify the things that are,28And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:28God has chosen what is insignificant and despised in the world--what is viewed as nothing--to bring to nothing what is viewed as something,
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
29so that no one may boast before him.29so that no human being might boast in the presence of God.29so that no man may boast before God.29That no flesh should glory in his presence.29so that no one can boast in His presence.
30It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God--that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption.30And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption,30But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption,30But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:30But it is from Him that you are in Christ Jesus, who became God-given wisdom for us--our righteousness, sanctification, and redemption,
31Therefore, as it is written: "Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord."31so that, as it is written, “Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.”31so that, just as it is written, "LET HIM WHO BOASTS, BOAST IN THE LORD."31That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.31in order that, as it is written: The one who boasts must boast in the Lord.
