Jesus Pays Tribute
Interwoven Gospels

Now they came to Capernaum. And when they were come, those who received the half-shekel of temple tax came to Peter, and said, "Doth not your Teacher pay the half-shekel temple tax?" Peter answered, "Yea."

And when Peter came into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying, "What thinkest thou, Simon? The kings of the earth, from whom do they collect custom or tribute? From their own citizens, or from foreigners?' Now when Peter answered, "From foreigners,' Jesus said to him, "Then indeed are the citizens free. But that we may not offend them, go to the sea and cast a hook, and take the fish that first cometh up; and opening its mouth, thou shalt find a shekel; take that and give to them for Me and thee, a half-shekel for each."
