5Through him we received grace and apostleship to call all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith for his name's sake.5through whom we have received grace and apostleship to bring about the obedience of faith for the sake of his name among all the nations,5through whom we have received grace and apostleship to bring about the obedience of faith among all the Gentiles for His name's sake,5By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name:5We have received grace and apostleship through Him to bring about the obedience of faith among all the nations, on behalf of His name,
6And you also are among those Gentiles who are called to belong to Jesus Christ.6including you who are called to belong to Jesus Christ,6among whom you also are the called of Jesus Christ;6Among whom are ye also the called of Jesus Christ:6including yourselves who also belong to Jesus Christ by calling:
7To all in Rome who are loved by God and called to be his holy people: Grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.7To all those in Rome who are loved by God and called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.7to all who are beloved of God in Rome, called as saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.7To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.7To all who are in Rome, loved by God, called as saints. Paul's Desire to Visit Rome

(1 Thessalonians 2:17-20)

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
8First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is being reported all over the world.8First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you, because your faith is proclaimed in all the world.8First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, because your faith is being proclaimed throughout the whole world.8First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world.8First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for all of you because the news of your faith is being reported in all the world.
9God, whom I serve in my spirit in preaching the gospel of his Son, is my witness how constantly I remember you9For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I mention you9For God, whom I serve in my spirit in the preaching of the gospel of His Son, is my witness as to how unceasingly I make mention of you,9For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers;9For God, whom I serve with my spirit in telling the good news about His Son, is my witness that I constantly mention you,
10in my prayers at all times; and I pray that now at last by God's will the way may be opened for me to come to you.10always in my prayers, asking that somehow by God’s will I may now at last succeed in coming to you.10always in my prayers making request, if perhaps now at last by the will of God I may succeed in coming to you.10Making request, if by any means now at length I might have a prosperous journey by the will of God to come unto you.10always asking in my prayers that if it is somehow in God's will, I may now at last succeed in coming to you.
11I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong--11For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you—11For I long to see you so that I may impart some spiritual gift to you, that you may be established;11For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end ye may be established;11For I want very much to see you, so I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you,
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
12that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other's faith.12that is, that we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine.12that is, that I may be encouraged together with you while among you, each of us by the other's faith, both yours and mine.12That is, that I may be comforted together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me.12that is, to be mutually encouraged by each other's faith, both yours and mine.
13I do not want you to be unaware, brothers and sisters, that I planned many times to come to you (but have been prevented from doing so until now) in order that I might have a harvest among you, just as I have had among the other Gentiles.13I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, that I have often intended to come to you (but thus far have been prevented), in order that I may reap some harvest among you as well as among the rest of the Gentiles.13I do not want you to be unaware, brethren, that often I have planned to come to you (and have been prevented so far) so that I may obtain some fruit among you also, even as among the rest of the Gentiles.13Now I would not have you ignorant, brethren, that oftentimes I purposed to come unto you, (but was let hitherto,) that I might have some fruit among you also, even as among other Gentiles.13Now I want you to know, brothers, that I often planned to come to you (but was prevented until now) in order that I might have a fruitful ministry among you, just as among the rest of the Gentiles.
14I am obligated both to Greeks and non-Greeks, both to the wise and the foolish.14I am under obligation both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to the wise and to the foolish.14I am under obligation both to Greeks and to barbarians, both to the wise and to the foolish.14I am debtor both to the Greeks, and to the Barbarians; both to the wise, and to the unwise.14I am obligated both to Greeks and barbarians, both to the wise and the foolish.
15That is why I am so eager to preach the gospel also to you who are in Rome.15So I am eager to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome.15So, for my part, I am eager to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome.15So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at Rome also.15So I am eager to preach the good news to you also who are in Rome.

I am Not Ashamed of the Gospel

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
16For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.16For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.16For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.16For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.16For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is God's power for salvation to everyone who believes, first to the Jew, and also to the Greek.
17For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed--a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: "The righteous will live by faith."17For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.”17For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, "BUT THE RIGHTEOUS man SHALL LIVE BY FAITH."17For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.17For in it God's righteousness is revealed from faith to faith, just as it is written: The righteous will live by faith.

God's Wrath against Sin

(Jeremiah 6:10-21; Jeremiah 25:15-33; Jonah 1:4-10; Acts 27:13-26)

NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
18The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness,18For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.18For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,18For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;18For God's wrath is revealed from heaven against all godlessness and unrighteousness of people who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth,
19since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them.19For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them.19because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them.19Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.19since what can be known about God is evident among them, because God has shown it to them.
20For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.20For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.20For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.20For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:20For His invisible attributes, that is, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen since the creation of the world, being understood through what He has made. As a result, people are without excuse.
21For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened.21For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened.21For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened.21Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.21For though they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God or show gratitude. Instead, their thinking became nonsense, and their senseless minds were darkened.
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
22Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools22Claiming to be wise, they became fools,22Professing to be wise, they became fools,22Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,22Claiming to be wise, they became fools
23and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.23and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.23and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures.23And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.23and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man, birds, four-footed animals, and reptiles.
24Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another.24Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves,24Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them.24Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:24Therefore God delivered them over in the cravings of their hearts to sexual impurity, so that their bodies were degraded among themselves.
25They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator--who is forever praised. Amen.25because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.25For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.25Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.25They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served something created instead of the Creator, who is praised forever. Amen.
26Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones.26For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature;26For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural,26For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:26This is why God delivered them over to degrading passions. For even their females exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones.
NIVESVNASBKJVHCSB
27In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.27and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.27and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.27And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.27The males in the same way also left natural relations with females and were inflamed in their lust for one another. Males committed shameless acts with males and received in their own persons the appropriate penalty of their error.
28Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done.28And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done.28And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper,28And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;28And because they did not think it worthwhile to acknowledge God, God delivered them over to a worthless mind to do what is morally wrong.
29They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips,29They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips,29being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips,29Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,29They are filled with all unrighteousness, evil, greed, and wickedness. They are full of envy, murder, quarrels, deceit, and malice. They are gossips,
30slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents;30slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents,30slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents,30Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,30slanderers, God-haters, arrogant, proud, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents,
31they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy.31foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless.31without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful;31Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:31undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, and unmerciful.
32Although they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.32Though they know God’s righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.32and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them.32Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.32Although they know full well God's just sentence--that those who practice such things deserve to die--they not only do them, but even applaud others who practice them.
